Seat at the Table: Building a Board of Directors
Build and strengthen your board to ensure lasting stability.
Whether you are currently sitting on the board or will be in the future, this session will help participants learn how to create and maintain strong, effective boards that support the long-term success of a family business. Through expert guidance, real-life examples, and hands-on activities, participants will explore how boards work differently in family businesses compared to other companies.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Understand the basics of family business governance and why boards matter
- Define the roles and responsibilities of both family and non-family board members
- Learn how to find, involve, and fairly compensate independent board members
- Manage board dynamics, plan for transitions, and understand how boards change over time
- Take part in a role-play to experience how a well-run board meeting should work
