Follow ownership transitions with a family business case study designed to highlight the key decisions, leadership structures, and guide rails of a founder's dream, sibling partnership, and cousin consortium models. This case study will examine how to address compensation and equity, shareholder roles and voting rights, governance structures, and tax and wealth planning that are unique to each ownership model.
About the Speakers:
Kelli Olson is a Tax Partner with BDO and has more than 15 years of public accounting experience in the area of taxation. Her focus is serving closely-held businesses and their owners, high net worth individuals, complex multi-generational families, and family offices. She has vast experience in federal, state, and international income tax planning and compliance as well as trust and estate tax planning. She works closely with her clients and client's team of advisors to provide strategic tax vision.
Kelli has experience serving clients in a variety of industries, including manufacturing and distribution, government contracting, technology, nonprofit, and private equity. In addition to her private client focus, she has experience with multi-national corporate tax and complex partnership taxation including both private equity and fund side consulting.
A seasoned corporate attorney, Corinne Sprague of Warner Norcross & Judd advises both privately held and publicly traded companies on mergers and acquisitions, commercial contracts, corporate planning, governance, and compliance with federal and state securities laws. In addition to her general corporate practice, Corinne assists family-owned businesses in designing governance, ownership, and compensation structures to align with their long-term succession planning and business objectives.
